About Us

Athens Medical Massage is a Treatment Center providing Clinical and Relaxation Massage Therapy Sessions. We welcome all people, in all walks of life. With caring, professionally licensed massage therapists on staff and friendly receptionists greeting clients at the door, the Center operats out of five different treatment rooms. Providing day, evening and weekend options. Massages are by “appointment only” and can be scheduled online or by phone (Same day treatments are often available).

About the Owners

The owners of Athens Medical Massage, Leila and Aaron McAvoy, are a husband and wife massage-therapist-team. They live in rural Athens County with their four children and many animals. With over 25 years of combined massage practice they run the administration of the business and simultaneously work as Massage Therapists within the Center.

History

Ida Rose Osborne founded Athens Medical Massage during the turn of the century. Through her never-ending dedication, ingenuity and continuous labors she patiently nurtured Athens Medical Massage into the stand-alone massage business within Athens County. With a deeply caring and trained touch, Ida’s healing hands have been laid upon thousands of people over the years. She brings a smile to the face and heart of all. She is a treasure, a master of her work and a solid friend.

When Ida approached Aaron and Leila about taking over her business, she was not thinking only about the day to day aspects of a brick-and-mortar store, she was thinking about her family business and wanted the future owners to cherish the Center as she has. Leila and Aaron are proud to do so.

Considerations

  • Depending on clients' needs, a massage can cover the whole body or be "sight specific" (spending the entire time on specific issues).
  • No clothing is best for massage. Clients are under sheets/towels at all times. It is ok to leave some clothes on during massage if it make you more comfortable. Remember any clothing in the way will need to be worked around by the therapist.
  • Please remove all jewelry.
  • Please turn off cell phones.
  • If need be, please use the bathroom before your scheduled appointment starts. We need to start on time to keep to schedule.
  • Massages are scheduled as "clinical hours." This means a 60 minute massage is scheduled at 55 minutes. This gives our staff time to prepare for the next session.
  • Late arrival means shorter massage time. The session will still bill for the entire scheduled session. (this is to honor the therapist’s time)
  • If for some reason our office is running behind we will still provide the full session time.
  • Massage can benefit people of all ages.

Payment Information

  • Payments can be made via cash, card or check (made out to Athens Medical Massage).
  • Tips: If you feel our therapist did a wonderful job and you wish to tip them, a cash tip can be given directly to the therapist or left for them at the front desk. A tip can also be left for a therapist using a card at the front desk. Our therapists appreciate knowing their work was well received.
  • Athens Medical Massage does NOT bill insurance.
  • FLEX spending accounts can often be used. Check with your provider to determine if it will work.
  • Ohio charges sales tax (%7.25) on massage, except when it's recommended by a physician. To wave the State Sales tax, clients will need to bring up to date written proof from their physician. Athens Medical Massage will not be responsible for keeping track of client’s tax free status. Clients will need to provide current proof for every visit they wish to receive the tax break.
  • Cancellation Policy - To honor our therapists, Athens Medical Massage has a "No-Show Protection" policy. In order to not be charged for the full session you must cancel, or reschedule, your massage before 24 hours of your scheduled appointment time. The no-show fee will be charged on the day of the service scheduled. Cash and check payments will be collected at the time of future appointments for the previous no-show session. If for any reason our office is unable to provide the service there is no charge.
